An independent public-information resource for Ontario homeowners. About us

Terms of Use

Please read these terms carefully. By using energyefficiencyontario.ca you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Effective November 2, 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) form an agreement between you and Energy Efficiency Ontario (“Energy Efficiency Ontario,” “we,” “us”) and govern your access to and use of energyefficiencyontario.ca, its subdomains, content, calculators, forms and email communications (together, the “Site”). Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and forms part of these Terms.

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract to submit a request through the Site.

2. Independent information resource

Energy Efficiency Ontario is an independent publisher. We are not a government ministry or agency and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Government of Ontario, the Government of Canada, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) or Save on Energy, the Ontario Energy Board, Enbridge Gas, Natural Resources Canada, or any electricity or gas distributor. References to programs, agencies and trademarks are for identification and information only, and those names belong to their respective owners.

3. Information only — not professional advice

Content on the Site, including guides, articles, tips, rate tables, program summaries and FAQs, is general information intended to help Ontario residents understand home energy topics. It is not engineering, electrical, mechanical, legal, tax, financial or other professional advice, and it does not take into account your particular home or circumstances.

Energy prices, rebate amounts, eligibility rules, deadlines and regulations change, sometimes without notice. While we work to keep information accurate and show when pages were last reviewed, we do not guarantee that any information is complete, current or error-free. Always confirm prices and program terms with the official administrator and obtain advice from qualified, licensed professionals before making decisions or purchases.

4. Calculators and estimates

Calculators produce illustrative estimates based on the inputs you provide and on assumptions described within each tool. Actual costs, savings, production, payback periods and emissions will differ and may differ significantly. Estimates are not quotes, offers, guarantees, energy audits or eligibility determinations, and should not be relied on as the sole basis for any financial decision.

5. Contractor-connection service

If you submit a heating and cooling or solar request, you authorize us to share the information you provide with up to three independent contractors or installers who serve your area, and you consent to those businesses contacting you by telephone, text message or email about your request, as described in the consent statement on the form and in our Privacy Policy.

  • No cost or obligation. The service is free to homeowners. You are not obliged to meet with, obtain a quote from, or hire any contractor.
  • Independent businesses. Contractors are independent third parties, not our employees, agents or partners. We do not perform, supervise or guarantee any work.
  • Not an endorsement. Connecting you with a contractor is not a recommendation, warranty or endorsement of that contractor, its pricing, products or workmanship. We may take reasonable steps to confirm that participating contractors hold required licences and insurance, but we cannot guarantee it — you are responsible for verifying licences (for example with the TSSA or ESA), insurance, references and permits before hiring.
  • Your contract is with the contractor. Any quote, contract, financing, warranty or rebate application is solely between you and the contractor or program administrator. We are not a party to it and are not responsible for its performance.
  • Rebates. Eligibility for rebates is determined only by program administrators. A contractor's statements about rebates are not our statements.
  • Accurate information. You agree to provide accurate information, to submit requests only for property you own or are authorized to act for, and not to submit requests on behalf of others without their consent.
  • Compensation. We may receive a fee from contractors who receive requests. See How we're funded.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • submit false, misleading, or automated requests, or another person's information without permission;
  • use the Site to send spam or unlawful, harassing or harmful content;
  • scrape, copy at scale, or systematically extract content or data from the Site, except through ordinary search-engine indexing;
  • attempt to probe, disrupt, overload or gain unauthorized access to the Site or its systems; or
  • frame or mirror the Site, or present our content in a way that suggests a government or utility affiliation.

7. Intellectual property

The Site and its content — including text, graphics, logos, calculators, code and design — are owned by or licensed to us and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view, print and share individual pages for personal, non-commercial use, provided you keep all notices and link back to the original page. Any other use requires our prior written permission. Short quotations with attribution for news reporting, commentary or education are welcome.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site and all content and services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantable quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors or harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Energy Efficiency Ontario and its owners, directors, employees, contributors and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, savings, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Site; reliance on any content or calculator result; or any act, omission, product, service or work of any contractor, installer, utility or program administrator — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site will not exceed one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including rights you may have under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Energy Efficiency Ontario and its owners, directors, employees and service providers from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or information you submit that you were not entitled to submit.

12. Changes to the Site and these Terms

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Site at any time. We may update these Terms by posting a revised version with a new effective date. Changes apply from that date; your continued use of the Site means you accept them. Requests already submitted are governed by the Terms in effect when you submitted them.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Subject to any non-waivable consumer rights, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, sitting in Toronto.

14. General

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization or sale of our business.

15. Contact

Questions about these Terms: info@energyefficiencyontario.ca or our contact form.
